Chapter 23

1 And the king4428 sent,7971 and they gathered622 unto413 him all3605 the elders2205 of Judah3063 and of Jerusalem.3389

2 And the king4428 went up5927 into the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and all3605 the men376 of Judah3063 and all3605 the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 with854 him, and the priests,3548 and the prophets,5030 and all3605 the people,5971 both small4480 6996 and great:1419 and he read7121 in their ears241 853 all3605 the words1697 of the book5612 of the covenant1285 which was found4672 in the house1004 of the LORD.3068

3 And the king4428 stood5975 by5921 a pillar,5982 and made3772 853 a covenant1285 before6440 the LORD,3068 to walk1980 after310 the LORD,3068 and to keep8104 his commandments4687 and his testimonies5715 and his statutes2708 with all3605 their heart3820 and all3605 their soul,5315 to perform6965 853 the words1697 of this2063 covenant1285 that were written3789 in5921 this2088 book.5612 And all3605 the people5971 stood5975 to the covenant.1285

4 And the king4428 commanded6680 853 Hilkiah2518 the high1419 priest,3548 and the priests3548 of the second order,4932 and the keepers8104 of the door,5592 to bring forth3318 out of the temple4480 1964 of the LORD3068 853 all3605 the vessels3627 that were made6213 for Baal,1168 and for the grove,842 and for all3605 the host6635 of heaven:8064 and he burned8313 them without4480 2351 Jerusalem3389 in the fields7709 of Kidron,6939 and carried5375 853 the ashes6083 of them unto Bethel.1008

5 And he put down7673 853 the idolatrous priests,3649 whom834 the kings4428 of Judah3063 had ordained5414 to burn incense6999 in the high places1116 in the cities5892 of Judah,3063 and in the places round about4524 Jerusalem;3389 them also that burned incense6999 unto Baal,1168 to the sun,8121 and to the moon,3394 and to the planets,4208 and to all3605 the host6635 of heaven.8064

6 And he brought out3318 853 the grove842 from the house4480 1004 of the LORD,3068 without4480 2351 Jerusalem,3389 unto413 the brook5158 Kidron,6939 and burned8313 it at the brook5158 Kidron,6939 and stamped it small1854 to powder,6083 and cast7993 853 the powder6083 thereof upon5921 the graves6913 of the children1121 of the people.5971

7 And he broke down5422 853 the houses1004 of the sodomites,6945 that834 were by the house1004 of the LORD,3068 where834 8033 the women802 wove707 hangings1004 for the grove.842

8 And he brought935 853 all3605 the priests3548 out of the cities4480 5892 of Judah,3063 and defiled2930 853 the high places1116 where834 8033 the priests3548 had burned incense,6999 from Geba4480 1387 to5704 Beer-sheba,884 and broke down5422 853 the high places1116 of the gates8179 that834 were in the entering in6607 of the gate8179 of Joshua3091 the governor8269 of the city,5892 which834 were on5921 a man's376 left hand8040 at the gate8179 of the city.5892

9 Nevertheless389 the priests3548 of the high places1116 came not up5927 3808 to413 the altar4196 of the LORD3068 in Jerusalem,3389 but3588 518 they did eat398 of the unleavened bread4682 among8432 their brethren.251

10 And he defiled2930 853 Topheth,8612 which834 is in the valley1516 of the children1121 of Hinnom,2011 that no1115 man376 might make853 his son1121 or his daughter1323 to pass through5674 the fire784 to Molech.4432

11 And he took away7673 853 the horses5483 that834 the kings4428 of Judah3063 had given5414 to the sun,8121 at the entering in4480 935 of the house1004 of the LORD,3068 by413 the chamber3957 of Nathan-melech5419 the chamberlain,5631 which834 was in the suburbs,6503 and burned8313 the chariots4818 of the sun8121 with fire.784

12 And the altars4196 that834 were on5921 the top1406 of the upper chamber5944 of Ahaz,271 which834 the kings4428 of Judah3063 had made,6213 and the altars4196 which834 Manasseh4519 had made6213 in the two8147 courts2691 of the house1004 of the LORD,3068 did the king4428 beat down,5422 and broke them down7323 from thence,4480 8033 and cast7993 853 the dust6083 of them into413 the brook5158 Kidron.6939

13 And the high places1116 that834 were before5921 6440 Jerusalem,3389 which834 were on the right hand4480 3225 of the mount2022 of corruption,4889 which834 Solomon8010 the king4428 of Israel3478 had built1129 for Ashtoreth6253 the abomination8251 of the Zidonians,6722 and for Chemosh3645 the abomination8251 of the Moabites,4124 and for Milcom4445 the abomination8441 of the children1121 of Ammon,5983 did the king4428 defile.2930

14 And he broke in pieces7665 853 the images,4676 and cut down3772 853 the groves,842 and filled4390 853 their places4725 with the bones6106 of men.120

15 Moreover1571 853 the altar4196 that834 was at Bethel,1008 and the high place1116 which834 Jeroboam3379 the son1121 of Nebat,5028 who834 made853 Israel3478 to sin,2398 had made,6213 both1571 853 that1931 altar4196 and the high place1116 he broke down,5422 and burned8313 853 the high place,1116 and stamped it small1854 to powder,6083 and burned8313 the grove.842

16 And as Josiah2977 turned6437 himself, he spied7200 853 the sepulchers6913 that834 were there8033 in the mount,2022 and sent,7971 and took3947 853 the bones6106 out of4480 the sepulchers,6913 and burned8313 them upon5921 the altar,4196 and polluted2930 it, according to the word1697 of the LORD3068 which834 the man376 of God430 proclaimed,7121 who834 proclaimed7121 853 these428 words.1697

17 Then he said,559 What4100 title6725 is that1975 that834 I589 see?7200 And the men376 of the city5892 told559 413 him, It is the sepulcher6913 of the man376 of God,430 which834 came935 from Judah,4480 3063 and proclaimed7121 853 these428 things1697 that834 thou hast done6213 against5921 the altar4196 of Bethel.1008

18 And he said,559 Let him alone;5117 let no408 man376 move5128 his bones.6106 So they let his bones alone,4422 6106 with854 the bones6106 of the prophet5030 that834 came935 out of Samaria.4480 8111

19 And853 all3605 the houses1004 also1571 of the high places1116 that834 were in the cities5892 of Samaria,8111 which834 the kings4428 of Israel3478 had made6213 to provoke the LORD to anger,3707 Josiah2977 took away,5493 and did6213 to them according to all3605 the acts4639 that834 he had done6213 in Bethel.1008

20 And he slew2076 853 all3605 the priests3548 of the high places1116 that834 were there8033 upon5921 the altars,4196 and burned8313 853 men's120 bones6106 upon5921 them, and returned7725 to Jerusalem.3389

21 And the king4428 commanded6680 853 all3605 the people,5971 saying,559 Keep6213 the passover6453 unto the LORD3068 your God,430 as it is written3789 in5921 the book5612 of this2088 covenant.1285

22 Surely3588 there was not3808 holden6213 such2088 a passover6453 from the days4480 3117 of the judges8199 that834 judged8199 853 Israel,3478 nor in all3605 the days3117 of the kings4428 of Israel,3478 nor of the kings4428 of Judah;3063

23 But3588 518 in the eighteenth8083 6240 year8141 of king4428 Josiah,2977 wherein this2088 passover6453 was holden6213 to the LORD3068 in Jerusalem.3389

24 Moreover1571 853 the workers with familiar spirits,178 and the wizards,3049 and the images,8655 and the idols,1544 and all3605 the abominations8251 that834 were spied7200 in the land776 of Judah3063 and in Jerusalem,3389 did Josiah2977 put away,1197 that4616 he might perform6965 853 the words1697 of the law8451 which were written3789 in5921 the book5612 that834 Hilkiah2518 the priest3548 found4672 in the house1004 of the LORD.3068

25 And like unto him3644 was1961 there no3808 king4428 before6440 him, that834 turned7725 to413 the LORD3068 with all3605 his heart,3824 and with all3605 his soul,5315 and with all3605 his might,3966 according to all3605 the law8451 of Moses;4872 neither3808 after310 him arose6965 there any like him.3644

26 Notwithstanding389 the LORD3068 turned7725 not3808 from the fierceness4480 2740 of his great1419 wrath,639 wherewith834 his anger639 was kindled2734 against Judah,3063 because5921 of all3605 the provocations3708 that834 Manasseh4519 had provoked3707 him withal.

27 And the LORD3068 said,559 I will remove5493 853 Judah3063 also1571 out of4480 5921 my sight,6440 as834 I have removed5493 853 Israel,3478 and will cast off3988 853 this2063 city5892 853 Jerusalem3389 which834 I have chosen,977 and the house1004 of which834 I said,559 My name8034 shall be1961 there.8033

28 Now the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Josiah,2977 and all3605 that834 he did,6213 are they1992 not3808 written3789 in5921 the book5612 of the chronicles1697 3117 of the kings4428 of Judah?3063

29 In his days3117 Pharaoh Necho6549 king4428 of Egypt4714 went up5927 against5921 the king4428 of Assyria804 to5921 the river5104 Euphrates:6578 and king4428 Josiah2977 went1980 against7122 him; and he slew4191 him at Megiddo,4023 when he had seen7200 him.

30 And his servants5650 carried7392 him in a chariot dead4191 from Megiddo,4480 4023 and brought935 him to Jerusalem,3389 and buried6912 him in his own sepulcher.6900 And the people5971 of the land776 took3947 853 Jehoahaz3059 the son1121 of Josiah,2977 and anointed4886 him, and made him king4427 853 in his father's stead.8478 1

31 Jehoahaz3059 was twenty6242 and three7969 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign;4427 and he reigned4427 three7969 months2320 in Jerusalem.3389 And his mother's517 name8034 was Hamutal,2537 the daughter1323 of Jeremiah3414 of Libnah.4480 3841

32 And he did6213 that which was evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 according to all3605 that834 his fathers1 had done.6213

33 And Pharaoh Necho6549 put him in bands631 at Riblah7247 in the land776 of Hamath,2574 that he might not reign4480 4427 in Jerusalem;3389 and put5414 5921 the land776 to a tribute6066 of a hundred3967 talents3603 of silver,3701 and a talent3603 of gold.2091

34 And Pharaoh Necho6549 made4427 853 Eliakim471 the son1121 of Josiah2977 king4427 in the room8478 of Josiah2977 his father,1 and turned5437 853 his name8034 to Jehoiakim,3079 and took3947 Jehoahaz3059 away: and he came935 to Egypt,4714 and died4191 there.8033

35 And Jehoiakim3079 gave5414 the silver3701 and the gold2091 to Pharaoh;6547 but389 he taxed6186 853 the land776 to give5414 853 the money3701 according5921 to the commandment6310 of Pharaoh:6547 he exacted5065 853 the silver3701 and the gold2091 of853 the people5971 of the land,776 of every one376 according to his taxation,6187 to give5414 it unto Pharaoh Necho.6549

36 Jehoiakim3079 was twenty6242 and five2568 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign;4427 and he reigned4427 eleven259 6240 years8141 in Jerusalem.3389 And his mother's517 name8034 was Zebudah,2080 the daughter1323 of Pedaiah6305 of4480 Rumah.7316

37 And he did6213 that which was evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 according to all3605 that834 his fathers1 had done.6213

2 Kings

Chapter 23

1 AND the king sent and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

2 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great; and he read before them all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.

3 And the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people agreed to the covenant.

4 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the doors to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal and for the idols and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried their ashes to Beth-el.

5 And he slew the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places round about Jerusalem, and those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and to the moon and to the planets and to all the host of heaven.

6 And he brought out the idol from the house of the LORD, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron and burned it at the brook Kidron, and ground it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people.

7 And he destroyed the houses of the Sodomites which were in the house of the LORD, and the houses of the women who wove hangings for the idols.

8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense in them, from Dan to Beer-sheba, and destroyed the shrine which was at the entrance of the gate of Salvation which was on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

9 Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread with their brethren.

10 And he destroyed the high places which the kings of Judah had made in Taphath, which is in the valley of Bar-hannom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Amlech.

11 And he slew the horses which the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan the king's eunuch, which was in the suburbs, and burned the chariot of the sun with fire.

12 And the altar that was on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and broke them down from thence and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

13 And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of Corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh, the idol of Moab, and for Malcom, the idol of the children of Ammon, did King Josiah destroy.

14 And he broke in pieces the images and cut down the idols and filled their places with the bones of men.

15 Moreover the altar that was at Beth-el and the high places which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he demolished, and burned the high place and ground it to dust and burned the idols.

16 And as Josiah returned, he saw the sepulchres that were there on the mount, and he sent and took the bones out of the sepulchres and burned them upon the altar and defiled it, according to the word of the LORD which the prophet of God proclaimed, who predicted these things.

17 Then the king said, What monument is that which I see? And the men of the city said to him, It is the sepulchre of the prophet of God, who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Beth-el.

18 And he said, Let him alone; let no man touch his sepulchre, and let no man move his bones, so the bones of the prophet of God spared the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria from being burned.

19 And all the temples also of idols that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the LORD to anger, Josiah removed, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beth-el.

20 And he slew all the priests of the high places, who burned incense upon the altars and burned men's bones upon them, and he returned to Jerusalem.

21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the LORD your God. as it is written in the book of this covenant.

22 Surely no such a passover had been kept from the days of the judges who judged Israel nor in all the days of the kings of Israel nor of the kings of Judah,

23 Like that in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, when this passover was kept to the LORD in Jerusalem.

24 Moreover the men with familiar spirits and the wizards and the images and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.

25 And like unto him was there no king before him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all that which is written in the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

26 Nevertheless the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

27 And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

28 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and all that he did, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

29 In his days Pharaoh the Lame, king of Egypt went up against Mabog which is by the river Euphrates; and King Josiah went to meet him, to fight against him; and Pharaoh said to him, I have not come against you, turn aside from me; but Josiah did not listen to him; so Pharaoh smote him at Megiddo, when he saw him there.

30 And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him there in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in his father's stead.

31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

32 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as Manasseh had done.

33 And Pharaoh the Lame, king of Egypt put him in bands at Diblath in the land of Hamath, when Pharaoh took over Jerusalem; and levied on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and ten talents of gold.

34 And Pharaoh the Lame made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim, and he took Jehoahaz away, and brought him to Egypt and he died there.

35 And Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money as he was commanded by Pharaoh; he exacted silver and gold from the people of the land, of every one according to his means, to give it to Pharaoh the Lame.

36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebudah, the daughter of Peraiah of Ramtha.

37 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

6 And he brought out the idol from the house of the LORD, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron and burned it at the brook Kidron, and ground it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people.

7 And he broke down5422 853 the houses1004 of the sodomites,6945 that834 were by the house1004 of the LORD,3068 where834 8033 the women802 wove707 hangings1004 for the grove.842

7 And he destroyed the houses of the Sodomites which were in the house of the LORD, and the houses of the women who wove hangings for the idols.

8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense in them, from Dan to Beer-sheba, and destroyed the shrine which was at the entrance of the gate of Salvation which was on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

9 Nevertheless389 the priests3548 of the high places1116 came not up5927 3808 to413 the altar4196 of the LORD3068 in Jerusalem,3389 but3588 518 they did eat398 of the unleavened bread4682 among8432 their brethren.251

9 Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread with their brethren.

10 And he defiled2930 853 Topheth,8612 which834 is in the valley1516 of the children1121 of Hinnom,2011 that no1115 man376 might make853 his son1121 or his daughter1323 to pass through5674 the fire784 to Molech.4432

10 And he destroyed the high places which the kings of Judah had made in Taphath, which is in the valley of Bar-hannom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Amlech.

11 And he slew the horses which the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan the king's eunuch, which was in the suburbs, and burned the chariot of the sun with fire.

12 And the altar that was on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and broke them down from thence and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

14 And he broke in pieces7665 853 the images,4676 and cut down3772 853 the groves,842 and filled4390 853 their places4725 with the bones6106 of men.120

14 And he broke in pieces the images and cut down the idols and filled their places with the bones of men.

15 Moreover the altar that was at Beth-el and the high places which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he demolished, and burned the high place and ground it to dust and burned the idols.

16 And as Josiah returned, he saw the sepulchres that were there on the mount, and he sent and took the bones out of the sepulchres and burned them upon the altar and defiled it, according to the word of the LORD which the prophet of God proclaimed, who predicted these things.

17 Then the king said, What monument is that which I see? And the men of the city said to him, It is the sepulchre of the prophet of God, who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Beth-el.

18 And he said,559 Let him alone;5117 let no408 man376 move5128 his bones.6106 So they let his bones alone,4422 6106 with854 the bones6106 of the prophet5030 that834 came935 out of Samaria.4480 8111

18 And he said, Let him alone; let no man touch his sepulchre, and let no man move his bones, so the bones of the prophet of God spared the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria from being burned.

19 And all the temples also of idols that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the LORD to anger, Josiah removed, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beth-el.

20 And he slew2076 853 all3605 the priests3548 of the high places1116 that834 were there8033 upon5921 the altars,4196 and burned8313 853 men's120 bones6106 upon5921 them, and returned7725 to Jerusalem.3389

20 And he slew all the priests of the high places, who burned incense upon the altars and burned men's bones upon them, and he returned to Jerusalem.

21 And the king4428 commanded6680 853 all3605 the people,5971 saying,559 Keep6213 the passover6453 unto the LORD3068 your God,430 as it is written3789 in5921 the book5612 of this2088 covenant.1285

21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the LORD your God. as it is written in the book of this covenant.

22 Surely no such a passover had been kept from the days of the judges who judged Israel nor in all the days of the kings of Israel nor of the kings of Judah,

23 But3588 518 in the eighteenth8083 6240 year8141 of king4428 Josiah,2977 wherein this2088 passover6453 was holden6213 to the LORD3068 in Jerusalem.3389

23 Like that in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, when this passover was kept to the LORD in Jerusalem.

25 And like unto him was there no king before him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all that which is written in the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

26 Nevertheless the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

27 And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

28 Now the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Josiah,2977 and all3605 that834 he did,6213 are they1992 not3808 written3789 in5921 the book5612 of the chronicles1697 3117 of the kings4428 of Judah?3063

28 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and all that he did, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

30 And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him there in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in his father's stead.

31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

32 And he did6213 that which was evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 according to all3605 that834 his fathers1 had done.6213

32 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as Manasseh had done.

33 And Pharaoh the Lame, king of Egypt put him in bands at Diblath in the land of Hamath, when Pharaoh took over Jerusalem; and levied on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and ten talents of gold.

34 And Pharaoh the Lame made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim, and he took Jehoahaz away, and brought him to Egypt and he died there.

35 And Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money as he was commanded by Pharaoh; he exacted silver and gold from the people of the land, of every one according to his means, to give it to Pharaoh the Lame.

36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebudah, the daughter of Peraiah of Ramtha.

37 And he did6213 that which was evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 according to all3605 that834 his fathers1 had done.6213

37 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
